A site-specific installation shown at the Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville Gallery. The central focus is a cluster of over two hundred hand-molded clay cicada larvae. These larvae come together to form a white mass that slowly spirals upward. Prints of wing patterns begin breaking away from the center and individual black adult cicadas are found scattered and flying. These elements reflect the lifecycle of the cicada – and ultimately the lifecycle of all things. The cicada spends the majority of its life safely underground and only emerges to experience a brief glimpse of the reality of our world before dying.
